From there the path crosses black desert and rhyolite ridge to Álftavatn, then drops through moss and birch into the green valley of Þórsmörk.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSince 1997 the same route has doubled as the course for the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon each July, a race that covers in a single day what most hikers take four days to walk.
