From there the path runs dead straight across Rannoch Moor, following the line of a military road built in the 1750s to move troops north after the Jacobite risings, later resurfaced by the engineer Thomas Telford.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePast the Kingshouse Hotel, which has stood beside that military road since the 1700s, the path climbs to its highest point, 550 m at the Devil's Staircase, then drops steeply to Kinlochleven and finishes along Glen Nevis into Fort William.
