The route
The road runs along South Africa's southern coast through the Tsitsikamma forest, where a suspension footbridge crosses the mouth of the Storms River after a walk past Strandloper Cave. Elephant herds numbering four to five hundred once moved through this forest in the 1870s; logging and hunting reduced them so far that camera traps confirmed only a single elephant left in the area by 2019.
Knysna, further along the route, has run an oyster festival every year since 1983, a ten day event where visitors work through roughly two hundred thousand oysters pulled from the lagoon the town sits on. The forest that once held a whole elephant population now keeps only the paths those elephants used to walk, still shaded by trees old enough to have grown up around them.
Made for someone who drove it. Or for your own wall, because you did.
